Top scorer of the Ghana Men senior National Team the Blackstars Asamoah Gyan, has questioned why Anderlect mildfielder Majeed Ashimeru was not included in the squad to face Nigeria.
Otto Addo announced his squad in a press conference after what was described as a ‘special strategy’ by the Ghana Football Association to keep the squad close to their chest.
Ghana will cross swords with Nigeria in the all-important World Cup playoffs on March 25 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the first leg before heading to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja four days later.
But reacting to the squad list, Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan wasn’t happy for not seeing the Belgium based midfielder who he believes is the best midfielder after Arsenal’s Thomas Partey in the country currently.
“This guy (MajeedAshimeru) is the best midfielder in Ghana,after Thomas Partey PERIOD. I have kept quiet on this but this nonsense must stop. Smh” Asamoah Gyan wrote on his timeline on Twitter.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the list questioned the omission of Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana who is rumoured to be injured and Fiorentina’s Alfred Duncan.
Southampton’s dependable defender Mohammed Salisu was also not seen in the list as it was reported earlier that he might change his mind and honour an invitation from the Black stars.
Ghana will be fighting to among the countries who will be battling for honour at Qatar this year.
